  7. Prepare and Review Vocabulary Words Daily. (It is very important to teach kids how to recognize terms and help them be able to recognize them.)

Curriculum

Age Group:        3-5

Curriculum: CREATION. Beginning of, Gen. 1:1. History of, Gen. 1; 2.

Objectives:

Two main objectives of teaching children about creation are:

 1) To help them visualize what the world was like at the time of creation and the Flood, and

2) To get them to associate things and animals we have today with the creation days and thereby learn about the creation days.

Before beginning to teach them anything, it can be helpful sometimes to do something to show you what their concept is about creation and the world as it was in the beginning. Many things can be done to help them visualize and imagine what the earth was like at creation, what Noah's Ark looked like, or what the Flood was like.

For young children, the emphasis is on imagining things at the beginning, learning about what Genesis teaches, and seeing God's power, goodness, and creativity. Thus, young children should be learning what the Bible teaches and as they learn about all God made, they should learn to see what nature teaches us about God himself.

1) To help them visualize understand the meaning of the Ten Commandments

2) To provide ways to memorize the Ten Commandments.

3) To develop a Christian lifestyle using the Ten Commandments as a guideline.

Before beginning to teach them anything, it can be helpful sometimes to do something to evaluate what commandments they are familiar with and what they understand them to mean. Many visuals can be used to support and reinforce the Commandments.

Develop real world situations for the children and allow them to apply one of the commandments to that situation.

  1. Moses Receives the Ten Commandments - God gave us loving laws to keep us safe
  2. The First Commandment: You Shall Have No Other Gods Before Me - Worship God Alone.

Age Group:        10

Curriculum: Books of the Bible.

Objectives: Teaching Method: Use a colorful visual aid (see photo), a similar one could be made very easily by anybody with a computer and color printer. Each of the book names is printed on an individual piece of thin card about 7 inches by 1.5 inches. The design is such that each piece looks like the spine of a book. Different colors are used to indicate the different categories of books (Historical, Epistles, Prophecy), and also to make it visually more interesting.

Since we only have 5 days to effectively break the Bible down, here is a suggestion

Day 1: Genesis – Esther (New Testament Divisions)

Day 2: Job – Malachi (New Testament Divisions)

Day 3: Matthew – II Thessalonians (Old Testament Divisions)

Day 4: 1 I Timothy – Revelations (Old Testament Divisions)

Day 5:  Review

Just as in teaching texts, the secret is repetition - but at the same time trying to maintain variety, so that it doesn't become boring. Start by repeating the phrase 5-12-5-5-12. Then explain it as follows…

5 Books of Law, 12 Books of History, 5 Books of Poetry, 5 Major Prophets, 12 Minor Prophets

After they get the break down…Now develop a way for them to memorize the actual books of the New Testament. You may want to encourage them to work in teams.

Old Testament phrase to be used is 4-1-21-1.

4 Books of Gospel, 1 Book of History, 21 Books of the Epistles, 1 Book of Prophecy

After they get the break down…Now develop a way for them to memorize the actual books of the Old Testament.

Here are some suggested incentives:-

  1. Any child who learns all the divisions and the 66 books gets a nicely printed certificate.
  2. Put the names of those who learn the books on a kind of "roll of honor" on a board.
  3. Point out that by learning the books, not only will it help them to find verses in the bible, but it will help them to do better in the quizzes and bible games.

Practice / Fun Ideas

It’s important to reinforce the teaching using games and quizzes. This gives the opportunity to introduce some "fun" elements that will encourage the children to learn. Use a variety of these in your teaching.

Word Search: A word search can help children to remember the spelling of the bible books.

Age Group:        11

Curriculum: Missionary Work.

Objectives:

The main objectives of teaching children about Missionary Work

 1) To help them understand the purpose of Missionary Work.

2) To get them acquainted with Missionary Work, locally, statewide, and nationally.

3) To acquaint them with the Missionary Work of the Foreign Mission Board.

Before beginning to teach them anything, it can be helpful sometimes to do something to show you what their concept of Missionary work is.

For young children, the emphasis is on imagining things at the beginning, learning about what Genesis teaches, and seeing God's power, goodness, and creativity. Thus, young children should be learning what the Bible teaches and as they learn about all God made, they should learn to see what nature teaches us about God himself.

Provide research, and reading material on the ongoing work of mission. Map out the areas that mission work is needed, and where it is being done.

Put together mission projects that can be shared with a local agency.

The main objective of teaching this portion is helping the youth to find out where they fit in to the ministry of the church by:

 1) Helping them to assess their gift.

2) Assisting them in understanding the balance of being a Christian Youth.

Before beginning to teach them anything, it can be helpful to open up the discussion with their understanding of fitting in as a young Christian. Many things can be done to help them visualize and imagine what potential they have in making an impact on kingdom building.
